Physiotherapists are skilled in assessing and identifying your child's strengths and any concerns you may have with their physical functioning. They provide intervention, education, therapy and home programmes to ensure the child achieves their physical potential.
They will work with your child to:
- Achieve gross motor developmental milestone, e.g. learn to sit, crawl and walk.
- Develop weight bearing through arms and legs.
- Improve balance and coordination.
- Increase muscle strength to improve function.
- Improve motor coordination.
- Learn to move safely.
- Regain/maintain muscle strength and flexibility following surgery or injury.
- Use splinting as needed to improve standing and walking.
- Use specialised equipment provided to assist independence e.g. walking frame.
- Recommend orthotic and specialist mobility aids if required.
- Integrate your child into school sport and physical health programmes.
