Schools/PreschoolsCHILDREN IN MAINSTREAM EDUCATION:Therapy for Children know there are many able students in our schools who are underachieving. Their needs cannot always be met by health and educational agencies (who by necessity concentrate on children with more severe challenges).
These children are frustrated and disheartened by the effort needed to get their ideas down on paper, and to keep up with their school work. This can effect behaviour, with some children becoming withdrawn, and others becoming disruptive. Many learn to avoid unfamiliar situations, leading to further disadvantage because it is trying new things that creates the opportunity for children to learn and develop their skills for the future.
Giftedness: There is a high correlation between learning difficulties and giftedness. Many gifted and talented students are operating at an age appropriate or average level because they have a learning disability that masks their true ability. This can affect motivation and feelings of self-worth.
Schools are by law required to provide GATE Programmes and there is a growing awareness of the needs of these children, however many children who do not perform on paper remain unidentified.
Therapy for Children can provide a variety of services to match your child's needs, your family, your school, and your pocket.
The service is designed by the family, school and therapist together following assessment using a variety of standardised assessments and clinical observations. We can help with
NATIONAL STANDARDS FOR LITERACY: In "The Literacy Learning Progressions" which goes with the Reading and Writing Standards it states that after one year at school all upper case and lower case letters and numerals are formed correctly. |
